Introducing container deposit legislation [CDL] (a 10 cent refund like they’ve had in South Australia since 1977) is the most important step Australia can take to restrict plastic pollution entering our oceans, killing wildlife and poisoning the marine environment that we all rely on. For more than ten years people have been campaigning for this simple scheme, the time has come to ACT! 8 billion bottles, cans and containers are wasted every year (that’s 8, 000, 000, 000) – over half of all that are consumed in Australia annually are never recycled. Over 85% of Australians support the scheme; it’s, as many say, “a no brainer”.
